FRENCH PROVINCIAL RESTORATION

Primary Bath and Kitchen Renovation

DESIGN BRIEF

The client had recently purchased a beautiful and timeless, yet neglected, French Provincial home on a lovely, wooded lot. The 60-year-old house had not been cared for in decades.

Instead of remodeling, it was important to the clients to restore as much of the home’s original features and intended character as possible, while updating the space for modern family life. The family chose to wait several years before renovating and live with the bathrooms and kitchen as they were to give them time to get to know the home and develop a wants and goals list that our team was able to plan around.

The primary bath was very small, so the goal became opening up the space and providing hidden storage (tons behind the mirror and in a dresser just outside the room). The kitchen and dining room were each barely over 10’ x 10’ – challenging for a family of six – so the obvious plan was to connect the rooms. Original light fixtures, cabinetry, appliances, and flooring were maintained where possible, and enhanced with period- and style- specific finishes including marble and brass.
