A redesign of a teenage boy’s bedroom
ROCK RETREAT
DESIGN BRIEF
This 16-year-old was ready to update his bedroom to suit his tastes and his interests. The former space was boring – not really any style – and still had relics of his younger interest like themed art and wall stickers from middle school. The room was also very bright in the mornings – on the northeast side of the house – and he desired a darker room and a way to block the light coming in for better sleeping in on the weekends. The vintage desk, bed, and nightstand came from two different sides of grandparents, so he did not need new furniture. He did need space for his increasing interest and talent with music, so guitars, amps, and records inspired the decor and the functional plans. The dark gray paint creates the moodier vibe he wanted, and also is a perfect backdrop for the colorful guitars and records as well as the warm wood furniture.
