I am very excited to be working on a new lakefront condo design project with a great family. We will be sharing project updates as well as practical design tips as we move through the project.
The first step in this project, like any project, was to develop the design concept. This is the foundation on which the rest of the project will be built. We spent considerable time with the client reviewing inspirational images and unpacking design preferences. After several conversations and analysis by the Sarah Couture Design team, we proposed this Elevated Lakehouse design concept to the client. The design scheme prioritizes both comfort and thoughtful design, utilizing cozy furnishings, tactile rugs and fabrics, soothing and subtle pattern, natural-looking wood, black metal industrial as well as antiqued brass fixtures and hardware, and natural stone. The color preferences articulated by the clients were nature-inspired, including soft sage greens and blues translating to an analogous color scheme set on an off-white/neutral backdrop. It combines their design preferences, living plans, and lakeside setting into a wonderful plan on which we will build out the design for the various spaces in the condo.
Before starting any design project, take time to think through your preferences. What design styles or elements are you drawn to? What colors inspire you? What do you want your space(s) to feel like? Spend time looking for inspiration – in nature, in buildings or architecture, in magazines or TV shows, on Pinterest or other social media. Save inspirational photos for a while and look for common themes. Common themes from inspo photos are likely what you are drawn to, and these can be incorporated into your design plan. Then, let your design concept drive your direction for your design development and planning.
